Topic: compare and contrast the workplaces in company, factory, and in restaurant.
We live in a world where there are many choices about many fields in life; such as food, friends, music, jobs, and also workplaces. Therefore, we will choose what is the best for us. The main purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast among workplaces in companies, factories, and restaurants. I worked almost 2 years in a restaurant when I studied in college in Vietnam. Then, when I graduated, I had two jobs: a designer for a company and a restaurant worker. I loved both jobs, but in my mind, I thought I would stick with the restaurant job. Companies, factories, and restaurants differ in the chance to succeed, the type of environment, and opportunity for enjoyment.
First, one big difference among these workplaces is a chance to succeed in the future. Mike Donohue, a spokesman for the National Restaurant Association, in the article Restaurant workers are starved of benefits said, “Data showed that 32 percent of adults get their first job experience in a restaurant and many jobs lead to management and ownership” (Black 1). On the other hand, if they work in a factory, they will stay in the same position as employees. Also, if they are only engineer designers for a company, they will be engineers for a long time. Therefore, restaurant provides many opportunities to become the owner or boss in the future.
Another difference among these three kinds of workplaces are the types of environments. When people work in a company, they can have so much stress and it comes from many sources; such as, job insecurity, uncomfortable working conditions, and excessive competition. Also, if people work in a factory, they can have stress. This stress comes from work overload, dangerous conditions, long or unusual working hours, and lack of support. However, the type of environment in a restaurant is different. It will be cleaner than a factory, and won’t have dangerous conditions. The restaurant worker can listen to music during the working hours and not have as much stress as the company worker.
The final difference among these workplaces is enjoyment and work satisfaction. When people work in a restaurant, they have a chance to meet a lot of people. In the article, Is Owning a Restaurant Right for You? ( Mealey 1) says:” If your restaurant is in your hometown, you get to visit with friends and neighbors. A restaurant is a community gathering spot, and that sense of community can be very rewarding.” Therefore, working for a company or a factory is very different than working in a restaurant. The community in companies and factories are very small. Thus, it is more fun to work in a restaurant, meet new friends, talk, and drink coffee with old friends.
Companies, factories, and restaurants differ in future opportunities to succeed, the type of environment, and fun working atmosphere. A working in a restaurant allows you to eat free good food. Moreover, working in restaurant provides experience and the possibility of ownership in the future. In addition, a person can work a short time to earn money, get life experience, and then make their dreams come true.
